Also: 'Samuel', an April/04 son of Jaklyn EX sired by Meeting Place Sampson, a buck closely related to the two Meeting Place does owned by Howcroft - one of whom was Gr Ch at the Royal 2 years ago.  This is a big, powerful guy extremely well made -- Samuel is one of the main herdsires we are using this year at Grasshill so one of our other herdsires... 'Lightning' VG-89 at 2 yr, has been sold. This is a fellow we were very reluctant to part with... but we trust he has gone to a good home and will have lots of does to service in BC. Jaklyn's son 'Honour'  is still being used as a Grasshill herdsire.
Looking back over 2004:
Our best wishes to all the new owners, not only of Lightning, but of other Grasshill herdmates that have travelled to other parts of the country this year from Nova Scotia to BC: Naomi's Honour, Xavier, Gypsy's Hobo, Beau, Snow Prince, WestJet, Chinook. We also extend our appreciation and best wishes to the breeders here within Ontario who have purchased bucks.
Our commitment for the future: In genetics there are no 'sure things', but it has, and always will be, our commitment here at Grasshill to do everything in our power to incorporate the best bloodlines possible in our animals, to follow up on as many animals as possible to see how bloodlines combine, and constantly be on the lookout for new genetics to provide outcross choices for the next generation. With the border closed, this will be difficult, but hopefully not impossible, by purchasing select does already 'in kid', sourcing out good bucks imported into this country just before the ban, and keeping on the lookout for superior outcross semen, embryos and/or animals from other countries to import as soon as the rules permit.  This way our industry can become more independent instead of relying on just one neighbouring country to provide different genetics when and if the border opens.  And as the credentials of the resultant animals in Canada become good enough and diverse enough to interest other countries, it is quite feasible to expect that new and expanded export markets will be created for those live animals/products as long as they meet required health standards. That is why at Grasshill we stress not only production, type and pedigree, but also outcross genetics and high health standards. To produce the type of breeding stock most suited to attracting, developing and sustaining favorable future markets in the goat industry...this is our main commitment at Grasshill
